O Lord, our God:

We worship and adore you

You have revealed yourself to the simple and the innocent and have confounded the arrogant

We worship and adore you

You have used what the world considers weak in order to bring down the powerful

We worship and adore you

Jesus, Master, entering upon our world, gentle and majestic, clothed in humility and riding on a donkey, we acclaim you with our hosannas.

We worship and adore you.  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

True and humble King, hailed by the crowd as Messiah: grant us the faith to know you and love you, that we may be found beside you on the way of the cross, which is the path of glory.  Amen.

Gospel of Palm Sunday: (for the full version read Matthew 21 v1-11)

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,

‘Hosanna to the Son of David!

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!’
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, ‘Who is this?’ The crowds were saying, ‘This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.’

For reflection:

Do we go with the crowd or are we brave enough to stand alone?  Are we influenced by the popular media headlines or do we want to seek the truth behind the given storyline?

For prayer: hold or imagine a cross

Christ Jesus, show us how to welcome you into our lives as you were welcomed into Jerusalem.

CONFESSION: God forgives all who truly repent, say sorry to God for anything you need to…

HOSANNA: We pause to think about the things which make us excited, all that we want to say thank you for, all that makes us want to shout Hosanna!

THE CROSS: Jesus died on the cross for everyone.  He did not pass on pain and evil but overcame it with love.  We remember the suffering and pain of the world and we ask Jesus to help all in need…

PERSONAL: Our Lord loves and listens to everyone, so bring your own prayers to Him now…

THE LORD’S PRAYER: use the version you prefer

Jesus when you rode into Jerusalem the people waved palms with shouts of acclamation.  Grant that when the shouting dies down, we may still walk with you on the way of the cross.  Amen.
