Café Lite Sunday 3rd of April

Slightly delayed due to technical issues – but here’s the latest Café Lite

Dear All

We have put together another Cafe Lite service and hope that you enjoy it.  We forgot to do an activity so get your thinking caps on, maybe send a card or a text message to a long lost friend, or ring someone you have spoken to for a long time, pray for a neighbour or friends from other Christian churches – we are all part of God’s family.

We also have a number of folk who have taken part this time.

Here is the link to click on, just one format this time

The Reading:

Acts 2 v 42-end

The Fellowship of the Believers

Music:

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

And here are the songs we have chosen, you might like to play them again after listening to the service:

Daily Hope Free Phone of Hymns, Prayers & Refelections

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has launched a free national phone line as a simple new way to bring worship and prayer into people’s homes while church buildings are closed because of the coronavirus.

Daily Hope, which is available from today, offers music, prayers and reflections as well as full worship services from the Church of England at the end of a telephone line.

The line – which is available 24 hours a day on 0800 804 8044 – has been set up particularly with those unable to join online church services during the period of restrictions in mind.

EASTER DAY

Alleluia Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed Alleluia!

We also have a printable version here of this service.

Sing, listen to or think about your favourite Easter hymn or piece of music

Christ yesterday and today, the beginning and the end, Alpha and Omega, all time belongs to him, and all ages; to him be glory and power, through every age and for ever.  Amen.

If you have a candle, light it now (or imagine a candle)

May the light of Christ rising in glory, banish all darkness from our hearts and minds.  Alleluia! Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed Alleluia!

The Easter Gospel: from John 20 v1-18 (or you may like to read Matthew28 v1-10)

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb….  Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ She said to them, ‘They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.’

When she had said this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? For whom are you looking?’ Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary!’

She turned and said to him in Hebrew, ‘Rabbouni!’ (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, ‘Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”’. Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord’.

For reflection:

  • Imagine that scene, very early in the morning, all is quiet, all is still, all is fresh … how does the story touch you? Where does your imagination take you?
  • Think about all the signs of new life around you in nature… spring flowers, blossom, buds and leaves emerging on the trees, birds and animals…
  • Remember all the times when things have turned around for you, when hope returned after a period of sadness or difficulty…

For prayer:

  • For everyone around the world celebrating Easter today
  • For all good news stories where hope has triumphed
  • For all babies born today
  • For our church family separated, but together in heart and mind

The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said: “Peace be with you”.  Then were they glad when they saw the Lord.  The peace of the risen Lord be always with you. Alleluia!

Ending Prayer: Risen Lord Jesus, as Mary Magdalene met you in the garden on that first Easter morning, so may we meet you today and every day.  May we be strengthened in faith, know the power of your presence and be ready to share the Good news with others.  Amen.
